Sony Ten is an Indian pay TV sports network owned by Sony Pictures Networks and Ten Sports. It broadcasts cricket, association football, golf, basketball, tennis, MMA and wrestling events. It was launched in 1 April 2002.

Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador of Sony India's sports channels.

History

In January 2001, Taj Television was established in Dubai Media City. The company launched Ten Sports Live on 1 April 2002.

In 2005, Zee Entertainment Enterprises launched Zee Sports as their 24-hour sports broadcasting network. Later, in November 2006, Zee acquired Taj Television India as a subsidiary. In 2010, a new channel named Ten Cricket was launched. Zee Sports was rebranded to Ten Action in 2010, which featured adventures sports and non-cricket content such as tennis and football. Ten also launched a separate feed for Pakistan.

In August 2016, Zee's CEO Subash Chandra announced that the company was negotiating with Sony Pictures Networks to sell its sports channel bouquet Ten Sports. The agreement was signed in September 2016 and the acquisition was planned to be two-phased. With the completion of the first phase of the purchase, Sony expanded its sports network to 9 channels. On 18 July 2017, the Ten channels were rebranded under the Sony umbrella with the "Sony" brand attached as a prefix on the former network's name, in addition with the launch of the HD simulcasts.

Programming

Ten Sports owns long term broadcast rights for the cricket boards of Australia, England, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Caribbean and Zimbabwe.

Its Pakistani feed broadcasts Ten Sports original content from Dubai Media City headquarters and cricket matches of International Cricket Council, Asian Cricket Council. Ten Sports Pakistan, although having the same brand as its Indian sister channel, does not air simulcast programming from Sony Ten.

Sony Six and Sony ESPN, which were launched before Sony's purchase of Ten Sports, effectively became part of the group when the acquisition was completed.

Sony Ten 1

It broadcasts events from the World Athletics Championship, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Sukma Games. Its programming schedule also consists on live coverage of the Hopman Cup, Australian Open, ATP, Moto GP, rallying, horse racing, beach volleyball events and NBA, IPL matches with Hindi-language commentary. WWE Raw (along with the 30-minute pre-show) and WWE Smackdown are currently broadcast live weekly, along with NXT, Main Event, WWE Sunday Dhamaal and (generally) monthly pay-per-view specials..

Sony Ten 2

It broadcasts football matches from European leagues such as UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Royal Federation Cup, French League, La liga, EFL Championship and German Cup all year round.

In addition, football panelists from across the world share their insights on the upcoming live matches, football updates on the channel on its show Football Extra'.

Sony Ten 3

It airs cricket maches from the West Indies, Zimbabwean, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and South African leagues. It also broadcasts UEFA Champions League matches.

Sony Ten Golf

It is an HD, golf-focused channel launched on 7 October 2015. It has the broadcasting rights to the European Tour, Asian Tour, Ryder Cup, LPGA Tour, Royal Trophy, US PGA Championship, Senior PGA Championship, Professional Golf Tour of India, and Ladies European Tour.
