CricBuzz is a sports news website and app to all exclusively for the game of cricket. The site features news, articles, live coverage of cricket matches (including videos and scorecards), player rankings and team rankings. The website also offers many mobile apps. CricBuzz is also the largest mobile app for cricket news and scores in India.

History

CricBuzz was created by three Infosys former employees Piyush Agrawal (IIT, BHU alumnus), Pankaj Chhaparwal and Pravin Hegde in the year 2004. By 2010, CricBuzz started developing mobile app for live cricket news and scores.

In Nov 2014, Times Internet, a subsidiary of Times of India acquired majority stake in CricBuzz for undisclosed sum. Post acquisition, the website continues to be managed by the original founders.

In Jan 2015, Times Internet owned GoCricket was merged into cricbuzz. GoCricket's website was redirected to cricbuzz and the mobile app of GoCricket was also merged with that of cricbuzz. GoCricket and Times Internet started alerting its users on various social media sites to follow cricbuzz.

Cricbuzz contains live streaming of cricket scores, upcoming schedules, team and player rankings, videos, pictures, cricket based online games and several mobile apps (for Android, iPhone, Windows phone, BlackBerry, Nokia etc.).

Popularity

Cricbuzz, in November 2017 was ranked 469 globally by Alexa Internet. The site was reportedly the 7th most Googled site in India in 2014. In 2014, its mobile app crossed 10 million downloads (largest in India) and the website was used by more than 50 million users worldwide and generated 2.6 billion page views in Jan 2015 alone.

Sponsorship

In Aug 2015, CricBuzz was named the title sponsor of India-Sri Lanka test series (India's 20-day tour to Sri Lanka that included 3 test matches held in Galle and Colombo).
